Displacement at work

Before any plane even takes off, carrying me to a foreign land, a strong sense of displacement is overwhelming me in the chaos that is my everyday life right now. As I find myself in a state of limbo between offices at work - evicted from the cube farm, boxes piled high.. but yet forbidden to enter the coveted "new" office space. "No key until September 1", I was emphatically told. So, alas, all I have to comfort myself with is a closed door hiding the promise of private space and an empty bulletin board waiting to be decorated with coming attractions in French!

Now displacement in my house, well that's quite another issue altogether...

  1. Yea!! You got the photos uploaded and placed. If I were you, I'd place a note on your *new* office corkboard with your name and contact information. September 1 indeed--that's for people moving into a office that is currently occupied. Somebody's being obstreperous, and we know who that is...

  2. Yay! Look at the photos. The pile of boxes is particularly poignant. When I first moved in to the college, I did not get any bookshelves or a computer, so I found some bricks, boards, and cardboard boxes and made a desk with shelves. Then I found an old 8088 under a shelf in the writing center and set that up. I hoped the implied sarcasm would work, but it availed me nothing, so I will not recommend that you set up shop on the floor outside the door until September 1. Frau Page's advice, as ever, is perfect.

  3. Perhaps Sophie can make a fun "coming attractions" type poster for your board--brighten up the space :-)
